Kickoff Dance Moment

A 6–8 Minute Celebration Before Dinner

Right after the First Dance, while the room is still cheering and the energy is high, I often open the dance floor for a short 6–8 minute celebration before dinner begins.

I’ll hop on the microphone and say something like:

“Friends and family, for the next few short minutes we’re opening the dance floor!
Mr. and Mrs. ______ would love to share a quick dance with everyone they’ve invited tonight.
So for the next few minutes, let’s get out here and show them what we’ve got!”

Then we fire off three or four high-energy songs back-to-back, and the dance floor fills instantly.

This moment works especially well because everyone is already gathered in the room, the energy from the First Dance carries straight onto the dance floor, and guests are excited to celebrate before dinner begins. It’s also a great time for photos — hair, makeup, and lighting are still perfect, and photographers often capture some of the best dance floor moments of the night here.
