FAMILY DANCES

The Father–Daughter and Mother–Son dances are a meaningful tradition at many weddings, giving parents and their children a moment to share the dance floor together.

Not every couple chooses to include both dances, and some families choose only one — or create something unique that fits their family dynamic.

Ultimately, this moment should reflect what feels right for you and your family.

I typically recommend scheduling these dances after dinner, when everyone’s attention naturally returns to the dance floor.

THINGS TO REMEMBER

  1.  These songs are usually abbreviated
Family dance songs are almost always shortened. In most cases the dance lasts about 60–90 seconds — usually one chorus and a meaningful moment before the crowd cheers and the evening moves forward.

There’s no need to avoid a song you love simply because it’s long. I’ll take care of the edit so the moment feels natural and well-paced.

  2. Surprise moments can be a lot of fun
Some families like to add a little personality to this moment — whether that’s a surprise dance break, a song change, or a playful twist that gets the crowd cheering.

If you have an idea for something fun, I’m always happy to help bring it to life.
